DESIGN A CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION
National Christmas card design competition
Entries close 13 Nov 2020
LITERACY TRUST
Calling all primary school children across the UK, we have launched our first national Christmas card design competition, and we want YOU to get creative and enter!
We know the festive season can be a really exciting time and even through plans may look a little different this year, we can all still celebrate all the best things about it!
12 winning designs will be chosen by a very special guest judge and will be available to purchase as printed or digital cards from 1 December, with all proceeds supporting our vital work to improve the literacy, learning and wellbeing of children whose literacy has been most seriously affected by COVID-19.
Who is the special guest judge?
Entries will be judged by award-winning illustrator and designer Dapo Adeola, co-creator of bestselling children’s books Look Up! and Clean Up! (Puffin) and supporter of the National Literacy Trust.
How do I enter?
The challenge is free to enter for all children aged 5 to 11 in the UK. Your design should have a joyful and festive theme, be on A5 sized paper(half of A4), portrait or landscape and must be scanned and emailed to us by your teacher or guardian.
Please email submissions (as attachments) tochristmas@literacytrust.org.uk
The caption on the scan of every design must include the designer’s first name, school and the town or city their school is in. Please do also let us know the best contact details in your email to us. See the example above.
When does the competition close?
Entries must be in by 13 November 2020, so don’t delay!
How do I purchase and send copies of the winning designs?
Once the winning designs have been announced, the public will be able to make a donation through Make a Difference Cards in the name of a loved one, and send them a special Christmas card or e-card with one of the designs. Choose to donate in lieu of a gift, and add your own personal message.
What prizes are up for grabs?
One lucky overall winner will receive a stocking full of books, a virtual visit to their school from competition judge, illustrator Dapo Adeola, and their design will available for people around the UK to purchase for their friends, families and colleagues ahead of Christmas.
The 11 runners up will also win themselves some fantastic books and their designs will also be available to buy on Making a Difference from 1 December.
Top tips and inspiration:
- Show us what the theme of joyful and festive means to you. What do those words make you think of? We’d love to see!
- Please stick to pens, pencils and paint because glitter and glue can be very tricky to scan in!
- Get creative with colours and don’t worry about how things should look. For example trees don’t always have to be green if you’d rather make them blue
- Draw what makes you happy. We want to put a smile on everyone’s face this Christmas time
- 300dpi is the ideal resolution for scanning
Last year we ran a Christmas card competition in Stoke-on-Trent and we saw some absolutely brilliant designs! Here's some inspiration:
