Sharon Donnelly South Derry Girls’ Football Championships

7th Jun 2024
On Tuesday 22 girls’ football teams from across South Derry arrived at Watty Graham Park Glen for the South Derry Girls’ Football Championships and what a fantastic day of football we had. There was lots of incredible skill on display and we had many very close and competitive matches.
We were very proud of our girls who progressed to the semi-final of the shield showing great determination and skill.
St. Columba’s Cullion were crowned Division 3 Champions, overcoming a strong Ballylifford team in the final.
Division 2 Champions were St. Trea’s Ballymaguigan who defeated last year’s champions St Eoghan’s Moneyneana.
Holy Family became Division 1 Shield winners with a narrow victory over St. John’s Swatragh.
Division 1 Cup winners were Derrychrin who defeated a strong St.Columba’s Kilrea team in a highly entertaining final.
Our cup winners and runners up will now take part in the All County Finals in Owenbeg on Friday 14th June.
Congratulations to all the girls on the excellent standard of football.
A massive thank you to our referees, especially Andrea, Fergal and Clare who worked tirelessly all day. Also to Watty Graham’s for the use of their facilities. As always a special word of thanks to Eugene Donnelly and Glenview Trophies who have so generously sponsored this competition from the start.
